How to Create a Basket Wall DIY

How to Create a Basket Wall DIY

For many of you, 2020 was spent at home. Some of you decided to use to expand your vocabulary by learning a new language. Others relaxed on the sofa and caught up on that TV series you were dying to watch. However you spent your time, one thing remains: we all found something we wanted to change in our homes. And we know that a Zambian Basket Wall is the perfect, new edition for any room. Kick-off 2021 by learning how to hang a wall basket.

1. Gather Supplies

For this incredibly simple, yet stylish, DIY, you'll need four different tools. First, select the wall basket of your choice. Next, you'll need to measure 3ft (30.48cm) of the fishing line. This should be more than sufficient. Using your scissors, cut the fishing line. Save the pushpin for later and the eco-friendly kraft paper for later.

2. Insert the Fishing Line

Step Two

For a clearer viewing, the fishing line is highlighted in pink. Begin by placing the front of the basket facedown on your surface. The back of the basket should be facing you. Hold one end of the fishing line in your left hand. With your right hand, fold the fishing line over the weave. Find a break in the weave and insert your fishing line; pull through. The fishing line should run over and under the weave.

Step Three

For a clearer viewing, the fishing line is highlighted in pink. Hold the opposite end of the fishing line in your right hand. With your left hand, fold the fishing line over the basket weave. Using a break in the weave, insert your fishing line, and pull through. The fishing should run up and over the weave in the basket.

Step Three

For a clearer viewing, the fishing line is highlighted in pink. Grab the ends of the fishing line and pull to make them the same length. Choose a location at the top of the basket. It should be near the middle. On the far side, insert each end through the basket to the front side. Creating a wide break, reinsert the ends of the fishing line to the back of the basket. This should be nearer to you.

Step Five

For a clearer viewing, the fishing line is highlighted in pink. Join the ends of the fishing line together. Create a loop and secure the ends together by tying three knots. Add the pushpin to your wall and hang your wall basket.

3. Decorate

Once you're reading to hang your basket, lay them flat on the eco-friendly kraft paper. Trace the baskets. Now, using these templates, arrange them on your wall with tape for an easier ability to mix and match. Start with the 28in Plateau Winnowing Basket because it's the largest. Place your 23" Mandala template diagonally from the 28in Plateau Winnowing Basket. Add the medium-sized 18in Aurora and the 18in Sol templates on the opposite side of the 28in Plateau Winnowing Basket. Finish your sample by filling in the empty spaces with the 12in Kariba basket and the 12in Choma basket.

Once your template is on your wall, and you're in love with how it looks, add your pushpins and hang your baskets! Recycle the paper or save it for a later project. Congratulations, friend!
